Green Smart represents EF Multifamily’s philosophy and commitment to sustainability. By focusing on straightforward goals like reducing energy use, minimizing waste, and supporting renewable energy and carbon offset projects, we’re working toward our shared goal of creating a better planet, one floor at a time.

Efficiency Built Into the Process

Efficient manufacturing can benefit both the environment and the project. Our vertically integrated processes are designed to reduce production travel, energy use, water consumption, and waste while helping maintain consistent quality and dependable supply.

Current Initiatives

Four Walls Process

Vertical integration keeps key manufacturing processes under one roof, helping reduce production travel, energy use, and waste.

Manufacturing Efficiency

Raw materials enter one door, and finished flooring exits another, traveling approximately 2.5 miles during production compared with an industry average of 250 miles.

PureColor® technology

Our solution-dyed carpet manufacturing process uses less water and energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared with traditional dye methods.

PureGrain® technology

Bio-based and recycled materials, along with on-site post-industrial LVT recycling, help reduce the environmental impact of our High-Def™ hard surface flooring.

Third-Party Auditing

Independent certification and auditing organizations help verify the accuracy, credibility, and transparency of our sustainability data.

Engineered for Longevity

Durability is part of sustainability. Flooring designed for longer-lasting performance can help reduce premature replacement and long-term material consumption.

The PureColor & PureGrain Journey

Our vivid PureColor carpet is also made here in Dalton, GA, in our 11 million sq. ft. facility that allows us to manage every aspect of its creation. This means consistent, beautiful color and quality, all produced in one seamless process.

Certifications That Benefit You

Independent certifications and third-party assessments provide greater transparency into flooring materials, emissions, and environmental impacts. These programs give owners, developers, contractors, and project teams credible information to support product specification and sustainability goals.

Carpet Rug Institute (CRI)

We ensure the material health of all our carpet products through the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus Certification, which recognizes products with very low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) emissions. We are also actively evaluating and verifying the material health of our soft surface and vinyl products through a comprehensive screening process. For more information about the Green Label Plus Testing Program or a list of VOC’s tested, please contact CRI Technical Department at 706-428-2101 or www.carpet-rug.org. Look for the Green Label Plus logo on all carpet samples.

Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

We are in the process of evaluating and verifying the environmental impacts of our carpet products through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which are based on third-party verified Life Cycle Assessment data.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) by EPD

We quantify the environmental impacts of our PureColor carpet products throughout their entire lifespan—from raw material extraction and manufacturing to transportation, use, and end-of-life disposal or recycling—through comprehensive Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs). This rigorous process allows us to identify opportunities for reducing our environmental footprint and to provide transparent, science-based data on our products’ sustainability.

HPD logo

Health Product Declaration (HPD)

Engineered Floors provides a third-party verified Health Product Declaration (HPD) for our PureColor® broadloom carpet, offering transparent information about product contents and associated material health data. Developed using the HPD Open Standard, this disclosure helps architects, designers, builders, and consumers make more informed flooring selections by providing clear, standardized information about the materials used in our carpet products.

FloorScore

FloorScore® is a certification program established by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) for hard surface flooring and flooring adhesive products that meet strict indoor air quality (IAQ) requirements. Products bearing the FloorScore label meet the indoor air quality emissions criteria of LEED, CHPS, the Green Guide for Health Care and are recognized by a long list of healthy building programs.

Greenguard

Our PureColor carpet products are certified by GreenGuard, an independent organization that tests and certifies products for low chemical emissions. This certification ensures that our carpets contribute to healthier indoor air quality by meeting stringent chemical emissions standards, safeguarding the well-being of occupants in homes and commercial spaces.

Focused on What’s Next

We know we’ve made significant progress in sustainability compared to our competitors, but that doesn’t mean we’re stopping there. We continue to assess the emissions of specific product lines with the intention of offsetting their carbon impact. EF Multifamily supports reputable renewable energy carbon offset projects, aligning with our Green Smart initiative and contributing to the global reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
